ABOTA Teaches:

Balance, Advocacy, & Tolerance

Spearheaded by Judy and Luther Battiste in 2020, the AT BAT Literacy Program encourages ABOTA members to be involved in civics education in their communities by volunteering to read selected children's books to local elementary school classrooms.

  • Fulfilling Our Mission: By participating in this program, ABOTA members actively contribute to our shared mission of educating the public and our youth. As dedicated teachers, you play a vital role in shaping young minds and instilling a sense of citizenship and civic duty. By collaborating with ABOTA members, you help instill these values in students, ensuring they understand the rights and responsibilities that come with being active members of society.

  • Engaging Classroom Experience: When ABOTA members join you, they bring a fresh voice to the lesson, offering unique perspectives on topics that students may or may not have explored before. This interactive experience enriches the learning environment and fosters a deeper understanding of important civic concepts.

The AT BAT Literacy Program offers a valuable opportunity for teachers to enhance civics education in their state. As educators, you are invited to participate by inviting ABOTA members to visit your local elementary school classrooms and read specially selected children's books. This program brings numerous benefits:

Together, let's empower the next generation with knowledge, empathy, and a strong foundation in civic education. Join the AT BAT Literacy Program and make a lasting impact on your students' educational journey.

Breaking Boundaries

The ABOTA Foundation has partnered with the Rendell Center for the Read Aloud Programs. With our partnership, we provide multiple opportunities throughout the school year for lawyers and judges to read to elementary students virtually!

The Read Aloud Program is completely free! Lawyers and judges will join classrooms virtually with our specially crafted Read Aloud Sessions to narrate our selected works of children’s literature.

The sessions last 30-45 minutes and are ideal for grades 2-5. These engaging sessions will wrap up with discussion questions as an opportunity for students to engage with the reader.
